The MOON 461 is the most powerful component in the Compass Collection, and it earns that position through engineering conviction rather than specification padding. At its heart is MDCA — MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier — a proprietary topology originally developed for the flagship North Collection. This architecture actively reduces distortion and improves linearity across the full frequency range, consequently reproducing the source signal with exceptional clarity, control and dynamic expression. Every unit is designed and hand-assembled in Canada, backed by a 10-year warranty.

150 watts per channel — stable under all conditions

Into 8 ohms the MOON 461 delivers 150 watts per channel, rising to 300 watts per channel into 4 ohms and 450 watts in bridged mono into 8 ohms. Two dedicated MOON Hybrid Power supply modules — one per channel — form a dual-mono implementation that improves channel separation, reduces crosstalk and ensures stable current delivery. Furthermore, this arrangement keeps performance consistent even with loudspeakers presenting low or complex impedance loads. Above all, the 461 remains composed and controlled at high listening levels, without loss of clarity or dynamic composure.

Three operating modes for maximum flexibility

A rear-panel switch provides three amplifier configurations. Stereo mode supports standard two-channel playback. Bridged mono delivers maximum single-channel output — ideal for large loudspeakers or mono subwoofers. Bi-amping mono mode allows separate amplification of a loudspeaker's high and low frequency sections, thereby optimising the interaction between amplifier and driver. Moreover, all three modes share the same MDCA architecture and dual-mono power supply, so performance does not vary by configuration.

The MOON 461 is designed as the ideal partner for the MOON 491 network player/preamplifier — together they form the most capable system within the Compass Collection. Both RCA and XLR inputs are provided, therefore the 461 integrates equally well with other high-quality preamplifiers. A 12V trigger input allows automatic switching, making the amplifier well suited to more complex system control arrangements. The characteristic MOON chassis — black with bead-blasted aluminium cheeks in black or silver — brings a quiet, architectural presence to any listening space.
