Chario loudspeakers have been handcrafted in Milan since 1975. Carlo Vicenzetto and Mario Murace — two University of Milan engineers — founded the company together. The name Chario simply combines their nicknames: Charlie and Mario. While most manufacturers design for ideal measurement conditions, Chario takes a fundamentally different path. Since day one, the goal has been speakers that sound extraordinary in real living rooms, with all their acoustic imperfections.

Proprietary technology

At the heart of Chario’s philosophy is the elimination of floor bounce — distortion caused by the first reflection off the floor. This reflection creates an energy difference of up to 10 dB between the fundamental frequency and its second harmonic. Although this may sound technical, the effect is immediately audible: it colours the very notes most common in Western music. To address this, Chario uses an unconventional driver arrangement. Tweeters are positioned lower than usual, closer to ear height. As a result, imaging, focus, and three-dimensional clarity all improve noticeably. Furthermore, all cabinets are built from dry-aged solid Italian walnut — no MDF, no synthetics. Because wood damps internal resonances differently from any artificial material, the sonic character remains uniquely natural.

Three collections

Chario’s range spans three distinct lines. The Academy S Serie represents the absolute pinnacle — each pair requires between 150 and 200 hours of fine artisanal work. The Aviator Serie draws its aesthetic from the golden age of aviation, combining massive woodwork with high-end acoustic engineering. Finally, the Constellation MK2 was designed specifically for real domestic spaces, where listening room and living room are one and the same.
