NuPrime DAC-9X – DAC, preamplifier and headphone amplifier in a single compact chassis
Reference-class DAC for audiophiles and studio professionals
The NuPrime DAC-9X is a reference-class DAC with integrated preamplifier and headphone amplifier — designed for audiophiles who demand the best from every digital source. Two ESS Technology ESS9028Q2M chips decode left and right channels in a fully independent dual mono configuration. Consequently, the DAC-9X achieves an SNR of over 110 dB and THD+N below 0.0005%. Since each channel has its own dedicated chip, channel separation is therefore maximised and noise is minimised regardless of the format in use.
Dual mono ESS9028Q2M and premium components
Since the two ESS9028Q2M chips operate entirely independently, crosstalk between channels is eliminated at the conversion stage. Furthermore, Vishay professional film MELF resistors in the signal path deliver exceptional accuracy and sonic transparency. Ultra-low-noise JFETs in the input stage keep the noise floor as low as possible. The linear power supply with anti-vibration treatment moreover suppresses mains interference, thereby ensuring a clean, stable power feed to all circuits.
Six digital inputs and flexible system integration
The DAC-9X offers six digital inputs — USB-B for PCM up to 384kHz and DSD256, two I2S/IIS inputs via HDMI for PCM and DSD256, coaxial, optical and an extension port for an optional wireless receiver. Since the integrated dual mono analogue volume control operates in 99 steps of 0.5 dB, the DAC-9X consequently connects directly to a power amplifier or active speakers without an external preamplifier. Individual input gain adjustment furthermore allows precise level matching between sources.
Headphone amplifier and MQA decoding
The 6.3 mm headphone output delivers 1700 mW into 32 ohms — above all sufficient for virtually any headphone on the market. The DAC-9X moreover supports full MQA decoding, with the front panel LED indicating MQA status in green, blue or magenta. Since it functions equally well as a standalone DAC, a preamplifier driving a power amplifier, or a desktop headphone amplifier, the DAC-9X therefore adapts to a wide range of system configurations.

Frequently asked questions about the NuPrime DAC-9X
Can the NuPrime DAC-9X connect directly to a power amplifier?
Yes — since the DAC-9X includes a dual mono analogue preamplifier with 99-step volume control, it connects directly to a power amplifier or active speakers. An external preamplifier is therefore not required.
Which digital formats does the NuPrime DAC-9X support?
The DAC-9X supports PCM up to 384kHz/24bit via USB and coaxial, native DSD256 via USB on Windows, DSD256 via I2S, and full MQA decoding. On Mac and Linux, DSD128 via DoP is available.
Is the NuPrime DAC-9X suitable for desktop headphone use?
Yes — the 6.3 mm headphone output delivers 1700 mW into 32 ohms, making it suitable for virtually any headphone. Since it also functions as a full preamplifier, the DAC-9X consequently serves equally well on a desktop or in a dedicated hi-fi system.
