The Verto D4S is Canor's first DAC without valves — and that is a deliberate statement, not a cost decision. Two ESS Sabre 9038Q2M chips run in strict dual mono, each with its own signal path and power supply. The analogue output stage is fully discrete, with no operational amplifiers anywhere in the chain. For a Foundation Line product at €2,469, the engineering on show is serious.

Every digital input — USB-C, AES/EBU, coaxial, two optical and a dedicated TV input — is galvanically isolated. That is an unusually thorough approach at this price point, and it matters: noise and ground interference from connected sources are blocked before they reach the converters. The linear power supply runs separate regulation for digital and analogue sections, keeping the two domains from interfering with each other.

Format support and digital filters

USB-C handles PCM up to 24-bit/768kHz and native DSD512 asynchronously. Optical, coaxial and AES/EBU inputs cover PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz. Eight digital filters are available, including Canor's proprietary "Optimal Transient" filter which enables true Non-Oversampling mode — bypassing internal oversampling entirely and eliminating pre- and post-ringing for listeners who prioritise timing over measured frequency response. Firmware updates are installed via cable, keeping the unit current without service visits.

Display, inputs and system pairing

A 7-inch touchscreen handles all operation — input selection, filter choice and display theme — with clear readability from across the room. Alongside the digital inputs, the Verto D4S offers analogue XLR and RCA inputs and variable outputs in both XLR (4V RMS) and RCA (2V RMS), making it straightforward to use as a preamplifier.
