Spatial Europe AMP No1 – parallel single-ended tube amplifier with EL84
Eight EL84 tubes in parallel — a distinct approach to amplification
The Spatial Europe AMP No1 is a parallel single-ended stereo tube amplifier, built exclusively by British valve specialist Audion for Spatial Europe. Eight EL84 output tubes operate in parallel single-ended class A configuration, combining the warmth and punch of the EL34 with the fluidity and musicality of the 300B. Audion founder Graeme Holland personally matches the output transformers to the impedance and Qts of the chosen Spatial Europe loudspeaker model — consequently, the pairing between amplifier and speaker is engineered rather than assumed. The AMP No1 is available at Novus Audio in Kampen.
Parallel single-ended topology with minimal feedback
Parallel single-ended design differs fundamentally from push-pull amplification. The absence of negative feedback preserves the directness and expressiveness of the musical signal, thereby allowing dynamic nuance and tonal colour to pass through without compression or homogenisation. Class A operation maintains a constant current through the output tubes at all times, contributing to a consistently even, low-noise presentation. Output power is 2 x 13 watts at 8 ohms — more than sufficient for the high-efficiency Spatial Europe loudspeaker models No1, No2, and No3.
Bespoke output transformers as standard
The output transformer is the most critical component in any tube amplifier. Graeme Holland matches each AMP No1's transformers to the impedance and Qts of the specific Spatial Europe model it will drive — a service included at no extra charge. This means the electrical and mechanical relationship between amplifier and loudspeaker is optimised from the outset, rather than left to chance. Furthermore, Spatial Europe recommends pairing the AMP No1 with Spatial Europe Wire No1 and Wire No3 for a fully co-ordinated signal path.
The EL84 between two worlds
The EL84 is one of the most musically communicative output tubes available. In the parallel single-ended configuration of the AMP No1, Audion harnesses its characteristic qualities while multiplying the tube count to achieve greater output power, lower distortion, and a wider dynamic envelope. Above all, the result is an amplifier that delivers on the core promise of valve amplification — expressive, spatially convincing, and genuinely involving across all musical genres.

Frequently asked questions
Which Spatial Europe loudspeakers does the AMP No1 suit?
The AMP No1 is recommended for the Spatial Europe MC Series No1, No2, and No3. Output transformers are individually matched to the chosen loudspeaker model. For larger models such as the No4, No5, and No7, Spatial Europe recommends the AMP No3 with 300B output tubes.
Can the AMP No1 be used with other loudspeakers?
The AMP No1 is designed primarily for use with high-efficiency Spatial Europe open-baffle loudspeakers. Its 2 x 13 watt class A output is well suited to loudspeakers with a sensitivity of 90 dB/W/m or above. Contact Novus Audio for advice on compatibility with your existing speakers.
Are tubes included with the AMP No1?
The AMP No1 is supplied without tubes. Tube selection influences the sonic character of the amplifier and can be tailored in consultation with Novus Audio. Our team is happy to advise on the best tube complement for your system and musical preferences.
