PrimaLuna EVO 400 Tube Integrated – the flagship of the EvoLution series
Every premium feature PrimaLuna offers, in one chassis
The PrimaLuna EVO 400 Tube Integrated is the top model of the EvoLution series, combining every premium feature in the range with the heaviest transformers and the highest output power. Eight EL34 output valves deliver 2× 70 W in ultra-linear mode — with KT150 valves, output consequently rises to 2× 88 W. Since Swiss Made wiring, Takman resistors, DuRoch tinfoil capacitors, AC Offset Killer and triode/ultra-linear switching are all present, the EVO 400 is therefore the most completely specified integrated valve amplifier PrimaLuna makes. Stereophile's Rogier van Bakel described it as a work of art — hard to better for under five figures.
Eight output valves and superior transformer quality
By contrast with the EVO 300's four output valves, the EVO 400 uses eight — consequently doubling output power and raising the damping coefficient from 4 to 7. As a result, it has greater grip on the loudspeaker and delivers more powerful, more controlled bass than any other model in the range. Furthermore, the transformers are heavier than in all other EVO models — five dots on the comparison table versus three in the EVO 100. Since valve compatibility covers EL34, KT88, KT120 and KT150, tube rolling options are moreover extensive.
Triode/ultra-linear switching, AC Offset Killer and full connectivity
The triode/ultra-linear switch gives the listener a choice between 2× 70 W with maximum control or 2× 38 W in triode mode for a softer, more emotionally direct character. Since the AC Offset Killer eliminates AC mains interference at the power supply stage, the noise floor is thereby significantly lower than in amplifiers without this circuit. Above all, five stereo RCA inputs, Home Theater Bypass, stereo/mono subwoofer output, tape output and a full metal remote make the EVO 400 suitable for virtually any system configuration.
Recognised worldwide as a reference
The EVO 400 features in Stereophile's Recommended Components list and has received Product of the Year, HFW Award and HiFiClube Award 2020 distinctions. Furthermore, the Wyróżnienie 2024 award confirms its continued standing as a reference amplifier. Since its launch, it has consequently become one of the most decorated integrated valve amplifiers at any price — remarkable for a design that places musicality above all else.

Frequently asked questions about the PrimaLuna EVO 400 Tube Integrated
How does the EVO 400 differ from the EVO 300?
Eight output valves versus four in the EVO 300 consequently means significantly higher output — 2× 70 W versus 2× 42 W in ultra-linear mode. Furthermore, the damping coefficient is higher (7 vs 4) and the transformers are heavier. Both models share the same premium components including Swiss Made wiring, Takman resistors and AC Offset Killer.
Which valves are compatible and how easy is tube rolling?
Compatible valve types are EL34, KT88, KT120 and KT150. Since Adaptive AutoBias and the high/low bias switch handle all adjustments automatically, tube rolling requires no test equipment or technical knowledge. With KT150 valves, output rises to 2× 88 W ultra-linear and 2× 50 W triode.
Is the EVO 400 suitable for large listening rooms?
Yes — since output reaches 2× 70–88 W depending on valve type, and the damping coefficient of 7 ensures excellent speaker control, the EVO 400 is consequently well suited to large rooms and demanding loudspeakers. Less sensitive designs are therefore also well within its capabilities.
