UFPD 2: Class D done properly

The Primare I35 Prisma is built around UFPD 2 (Ultra Fast Power Device), Primare's most refined Class D amplifier platform to date. Fully analogue in its design, it delivers 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 300 watts into 4 ohms — with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz at −0.2 dB and THD+N below 0.05% at 10 W into 8 ohms. Efficiency exceeds 90%, consequently the chassis runs cool even under sustained load and remains remarkably compact. Above all, UFPD 2 dispels the notion that Class D cannot match conventional amplifier designs in musicality and resolution.

Prisma: streaming, multiroom and app control

Prisma is Primare's proprietary connectivity platform, integrating Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect and DLNA/UPnP into a single unit. The free Prisma app for iOS and Android handles source selection, volume management and multiroom or multizone playback. There is no need for a separate network player; the I35 Prisma functions as a complete digital hub. Inputs can be renamed, volume offsets adjusted and the OLED display configured to suit any system.

DAC module DM36: PCM to 768 kHz and DSD256

The onboard DM36 DAC module uses an AKM AK4497EQ 32-bit stereo DAC with a newly developed OSR Doubler switched-capacitor filter, thereby maintaining a flat noise floor up to 200 kHz. The USB-B input supports playback up to PCM 768 kHz/32-bit and DSD256/11.2 MHz. Four optical inputs, two coaxial inputs and two USB ports cover virtually every digital source. Furthermore, two balanced XLR inputs and three RCA inputs complete a thoroughly specified analogue section — making an external DAC unnecessary in most systems.

Modular by design: compact, elegant and future-proof

The I35 Prisma reflects Primare's Scandinavian design philosophy — purposeful, understated and built to last. The solid aluminium enclosure with its signature control knob and OLED display is available in black and titanium. Since both the DAC and Prisma modules can be added at any point after purchase, the I35 protects the original investment as system requirements evolve. The same modular architecture is shared with the Primare CD35 and PRE35, therefore components can be redistributed across a system with minimal effort.

Does the Primare I35 Prisma have a phono input?

No. The I35 Prisma does not include a built-in phono stage. A separate phono preamplifier — such as the Primare R35 — is required for turntable use, connecting to any of the RCA inputs.

Can the I35 Prisma be used without the streaming module?

Yes. The I35 is available in several configurations: as a purely analogue amplifier, with DAC module only, or as the full Prisma version. Both the DAC and Prisma modules can be retrofitted at any time, making the I35 a genuinely modular long-term investment.
