Cambridge Audio Evo 300 – the streaming amplifier with serious headroom

One box, everything covered

The Cambridge Audio Evo 300 is the most powerful all-in-one streaming amplifier the British brand has built to date. Rated at 300 watts per channel into 8 ohms and up to 550 watts into 4 ohms, it has the muscle to drive demanding speakers in larger rooms with ease. The Hypex NCOREx Class D modules run in a dual-mono configuration, therefore channel separation and control remain intact even at higher volumes. Amplifier, DAC, and network streamer all sit in a single chassis, so all that's left to add is a pair of speakers.

Amplification built around separation and detail

A balanced preamp stage and independent analogue volume controls for each channel preserve stereo focus, dynamic range, and low-level detail, even when pushed hard. A purpose-matched switch-mode power supply furthermore keeps performance steady during extended listening sessions. On the digital side, an ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M DAC handles PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512, ensuring high-resolution files are given their full due.

StreamMagic, HDMI eARC, and a built-in phono stage

StreamMagic Gen 4 brings Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Deezer, Amazon Music, and Roon Ready into play, alongside UPnP, Internet Radio, AirPlay 2, and Chromecast. HDMI eARC connects directly to a television, thereby giving the Cambridge Audio Evo 300 a central role in the wider AV setup. A built-in MM phono stage allows a turntable to be connected without an external phono preamp. Further sources are covered via USB-B, optical and coaxial digital inputs, balanced XLR, and analogue RCA, while Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX HD takes care of wireless playback.

A bigger display and interchangeable side panels

The 7.8-inch colour display is the largest yet fitted to an Evo model, showing album art, playback information, or optional VU meters at a glance. Above all, the magnetically attached side panels can be swapped between real wood veneer and a more technical finish, allowing the unit to suit different rooms and tastes. Integrated subwoofer management is handled conveniently through the companion app.
