Canor Virtus I4S – integrated amplifier with discrete dual mono Class AB and Error Correction

The Virtus I4S is Canor's first fully solid-state integrated amplifier — no valves, no hybrid compromise, just a carefully engineered Class AB design built to the same standard of discrete construction that defines the rest of the Canor range. At 75 watts into 8 ohms and 120 into 4, with a damping factor of 330 and SNR above 90dB, it drives most loudspeakers without strain. For a Foundation Line product at €2,489, the engineering credentials are serious.

Canor Virtus I4S integrated amplifier — Error Correction and discrete output stage

Canor borrows Error Correction from the reference Virtus S1S — a local feedback circuit that linearises the output stage at the source rather than relying on heavy global feedback to clean up after it. The result is lower transient distortion, more natural dynamics and a lighter overall feedback load than conventional Class AB designs. A single MOSFET per half-phase handles output — no parallel transistors, no matching headaches, the same approach used by GamuT and Gato at considerably higher price points. The power supply runs a toroidal transformer with 40,000µF of filtering per channel.

Phono stage, headphone output and interface

The discrete phono stage handles both MM and MC cartridges, with four gain settings (40, 46, 60 and 66dB) and a full range of capacitance and impedance options adjustable from the front display. A dedicated discrete headphone stage drives the 6.3mm output on the front panel. The central control knob integrates a 1.8-inch touchscreen with CCD position sensing — unusually smooth in operation and a genuine improvement over typical encoder implementations. Wireless firmware updates keep the unit current without service visits.

Connectivity and system pairing

Two RCA inputs, one balanced XLR input and a phono input cover the usual sources. A variable RCA output handles subwoofer or external power amplifier duties. The natural partner is the Canor Verto D4S — same Foundation Line, same design language, fully balanced XLR connection throughout. Available in black, silver or bronze.
