Spatial Europe MC Series No2 – open-baffle with twin 12-inch woofers and coaxial mid-high

A new benchmark in dynamics, staging, and tonal colour

The Spatial Europe MC Series No2 is a three-way open-baffle loudspeaker combining two 12-inch woofers with two 8-inch coaxial drivers and a 1.75-inch spherical horn tweeter. The optimised series crossover — built into the 60 mm thick aluminium plinth — raises efficiency considerably above the MC Series No1, consequently making the No2 driveable from as little as 5 watts. This therefore makes it an ideal partner for the lowest-powered single-ended tube amplifiers. Furthermore, the No2 combines its exceptional performance with slim, compact proportions that integrate naturally into virtually any listening room. The MC Series No2 is available at Novus Audio in Kampen.

Twin 12-inch woofers and coaxial mid-high

At the core of the Spatial Europe MC Series No2 sit two 12-inch woofers and two 8-inch coaxial drivers, each with a 1.75-inch spherical horn. By placing tweeter and midrange driver at the same acoustic centre, the coaxial principle achieves phase integration that is inherently more precise than systems with separately positioned drivers. The spherical horn furthermore delivers a wide and even dispersion pattern, consequently keeping the tonal character consistent across a broad listening area. Above all, the result is a spacious, three-dimensional soundstage with precise depth layering that draws the listener fully into the music.

Series crossover in the aluminium plinth

Unlike parallel crossovers, a series network drives all transducers from a single shared circuit, therefore achieving inherently better phase cooperation between woofer, midrange, and tweeter. Building the crossover into the massive 60 mm aluminium plinth furthermore minimises vibration transfer and thermal influence on the components. Low-impedance Mundorf air-core inductors, Intertechnik capacitors, and Mundorf Supreme resistors consequently ensure maximum signal transparency throughout. Moreover, the crossover is upgradeable, which means future optimisations are possible without a full replacement.

Components, connections, and placement

Internal wiring uses 8N solid-core copper throughout; Oyaide Bronze connectors and WBT NextGen binding posts complete the signal path. Spatial Europe recommends a minimum distance of 65 cm from the rear wall, a listening distance of at least 2.5 metres, and a room of no less than 15 m². Standard finishes are glimmer lacquer black or white; wood veneer is available at a surcharge of €600 to €1,000 per pair. All Spatial Europe loudspeakers furthermore require approximately 500 hours of run-in time — Spatial Europe therefore offers a dedicated run-in service in their sound-isolated room.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the MC Series No1 and the MC Series No2?

The No2 uses two 12-inch woofers and two coaxial drivers compared to one 15-inch woofer and one coaxial driver in the No1. Consequently, sensitivity is higher and the amplifier requirement even lower — the No2 operates from just 5 watts. Furthermore, the No2 features a dipole compression driver with optimised aluminium rear cover for a wider rear dispersion pattern.

Which amplifiers suit the Spatial Europe MC Series No2?

Spatial Europe recommends the AMP No2 and AMP No3 as optimal partners. Thanks to the high sensitivity, the No2 also works superbly with other tube amplifiers or high-quality solid-state designs. Contact Novus Audio for personalised advice on the best amplifier pairing for your system.

What is the run-in period for the Spatial Europe MC Series No2?

All Spatial Europe loudspeakers require approximately 500 hours of run-in time. Spatial Europe therefore offers a dedicated run-in service in their sound-isolated room. Contact Novus Audio for further information about this service.
