The Morel Avyra 633 is the floorstanding model of the Avyra range. Morel has built drive units since 1975, and other manufacturers use them too. Consequently, every driver in this 2.5-way design is developed and made in-house. That brings engineering rarely seen at this price. Moreover, sculpted side panels keep the 982 mm cabinet visually slim.

Twin woofers with 75 mm external voice coils

Both 160 mm woofers use Morel's EVC (External Voice Coil) topology. The coil sits outside the magnet rather than inside it. This allows a 75 mm coil of Hexatech aluminium wire on a titanium former – remarkable for a driver this size. A double vented ferrite magnet supplies the drive. Furthermore, the one-piece cones use Morel's damped DPC composite, which suppresses break-up and distortion. The cones therefore stay pistonic and controlled, even at high levels.

2.5-way layout and tweeter

In the 2.5-way layout, both woofers share bass duties. The lower unit rolls off from 250 Hz, whereas the upper one continues through the midrange to 2.2 kHz. Consequently, the 633 pairs genuine bass weight with a clean, uncluttered midband. Above 2.2 kHz, a hand-made 28 mm Acuflex soft dome takes over. Its warm, open character keeps voices natural and never edgy.

Bass extension and amplification

A rear-firing reflex port extends the response down to 25 Hz. The 633 is therefore at home in medium and larger rooms. With 89 dB sensitivity and a 4-ohm load, it rewards an amplifier with genuine current delivery. Above all, it anchors a home cinema built around the wider Avyra range. The MDF cabinet comes in semi-matt black, white, oak and walnut.
