Spatial Europe MC Series No5 – twin 12-inch dual voice coil woofers and dipole coaxial mid-high

Double dual voice coil technology with Faraday bushing

The Spatial Europe MC Series No5 combines two 12-inch dual voice coil woofers with copper Faraday bushing with the 10-inch coaxial dipole system from the No4. The Faraday bushing in the magnet around the voice coil eliminates the need for any absorption circuit, consequently raising efficiency considerably and removing non-linear distortion caused by inductance variation. Furthermore, the No5 achieves an in-room frequency response from 32 Hz to 21 kHz at a sensitivity of 96 dB/W/m. The optimised series crossover moreover enables operation from just 8 watts, therefore making the No5 an ideal partner for single-ended tube amplifiers. The MC Series No5 is available at Novus Audio in Kampen.

Twin dual voice coil woofers — volume and control

Two 12-inch dual voice coil woofers with copper Faraday bushing deliver bass reproduction that is not only deep but also exceptionally clean. By eliminating inductance variation, bass is tight, fast, and temporally coherent with the midrange — a quality that conventional woofers without Faraday technology cannot achieve. Open-baffle construction furthermore ensures that the woofers radiate as dipoles, consequently reducing room mode excitation significantly compared to closed systems. Above all, the result is a controlled and natural presentation that scales convincingly even in larger rooms of at least 20 m².

10-inch coaxial dipole — open front and rear

The 10-inch coaxial driver is open at the rear, thereby radiating mid-high frequencies as a true dipole. An optimised aluminium rear cover on the 1.75-inch spherical wave dipole horn controls rearward dispersion precisely. Consequently, the No5 pairs two dipole woofers with a dipole coaxial mid-high system, therefore achieving complete spatial coherence from front to back of the listening room. Furthermore, the larger membrane surface of the 10-inch coaxial driver delivers a particularly rich and detailed midrange presentation that surpasses the No4.

Components and placement

The No5 uses Jantzen capacitors, Jupiter Beeswax copper foil capacitors, low-impedance Mundorf layer-core inductors, and Mundorf Supreme resistors — identical to the component set of the No4. WBT Bronze connectors and WBT NextGen binding posts complete the signal path. Spatial Europe recommends a minimum rear wall distance of 65 cm, a listening distance of at least 2.5 metres, and a room of no less than 20 m². Standard finishes are glimmer lacquer black or white; wood veneer is available at extra cost. All models furthermore require approximately 500 hours of run-in time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the MC Series No4 and the MC Series No5?

The No4 uses one 15-inch dual voice coil woofer; the No5 uses two 12-inch dual voice coil woofers. Consequently, total diaphragm area is greater in the No5 and sensitivity at 96 dB is marginally higher than the 94 dB of the No4.

Which amplifiers suit the Spatial Europe MC Series No5?

Spatial Europe recommends the AMP No2 or AMP No3 as optimal partners. Thanks to the 96 dB sensitivity, the No5 performs excellently from just 8 watts. Contact Novus Audio for personalised advice on the best amplifier pairing for your system.

What is the minimum room size for the Spatial Europe MC Series No5?

Spatial Europe recommends a minimum room of 20 m² with at least 65 cm clearance behind the speaker and a listening distance of at least 2.5 metres. For smaller rooms, the MC Series No1 or No2 is the more suitable choice. Our specialists are happy to advise on the right model for your space.
